On the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries we saw...
Elena wakes up the morning after the accident and she discovers what she was afraid of happened in reality - she died with vampire blood in her system and now she has to complete her transformation into a vampire ... or die for real.
Stefan promises Elena that hi and Bonnie will do everything in their powers to find an other solution, but Damon becomes furious with his brother for letting her die. Bonnie pays for trying to change Elena fate, while Damon gets his disappointment and frustration on Matt.
In a rare moment of empathy, Rebekah is deeply moved by the dedication of Stefan to Elena. At the end, Pastor Young and the members of the council start to gather vampires and their protectors.
